Becky Slack has been elected as the new chair of Brussels Labour, succeeding Imogen Tyreman, at an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday 18 September.
Becky had served as vice-chair of Brussels Labour since April 2022, and has lived in Belgium since September 2020, when she moved to Brussels to study a Masters in Political Strategy and Communications at the Brussels School of International Studies. She is also co-director of Agenda, a strategic communications agency that works with charities and trade unions in the UK and EU.
“I am honoured to have been elected as chair at this important time. The newly elected Labour government has pledged to ‘reset the relationship’ with Europe. Our branch members hold a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of the EU and are very well-connected across the continent, which puts us in an excellent position to help the government deliver this important manifesto commitment. I’m looking forward to building on all that Imogen has achieved and working with the executive committee and our branch members to take advantage of the opportunities this presents,” said Becky.
The position of chair became available after Imogen decided to step back from the role, following four years in the role. During her tenure, she led the branch through some major events, including Brexit, the branch’s 50th anniversary and the recent general election.
“It has been a pleasure to serve as branch chair over the past four years. Thanks to a strong executive committee, we’ve been able to sustain branch activities and find a new role for ourselves in Brussels as a socialist party outside of the European Union. I have every hope the branch will continue to thrive under Becky’s leadership and look forward to supporting that in any way I can,” said Imogen.
Branch meetings are held monthly in central Brussels. If you’re a registered Labour Party member living in Belgium and want to join Brussels Labour, please get in touch here.
